Paul you noob. Look in options menu and just disable subtitles! I use it as TV and all is great.

Do Not buy this if you want to use it as a TV. It's almost impossible to switch off the subtitles, even at source. Which means that every time you change channels, the sub-titles reappear. Have checked with Phillips and they are aware of the problem but can't do anything about it - this is a DUD
